The Importance of Mentorship and Mentality

Presented by: Brooke Jackson Kahn

Army Veteran

12pm PT/3pmET

There are two big differences between male and female veterans. Much of it has to do with the lack of mentoring that is all too often handed freely to men of the military. This in turn helps the men have an understanding of their skill set and how to continue to use it in the civilian world once their military days are done. For women, it is important to understand why we need mentoring, how to find it and what it can do for our career paths. The other main difference is mentality. Men often apply for jobs they are underqualified for because they believe they can learn fast and adapt to the position. They also think better of themselves knowing what they bring to the table benefiting from previous mentorship. Women often undervalue themselves and end up not applying for many jobs because they don't have every single qualification. I hope this talk will be informative and help women evaluate where they are so they can move to the next step in achieving their dream career!
